Halloween has come and gone. Thank you so much to all of the parents that helped with the party. The kids really enjoyed themselves! There are a lot of projects that are coming due in the next couple of weeks. Friday, their recitation is due. Due to the Middle Kid’s Musical we will not be setting up the museum until Monday, Nov. 12. However, students still need to bring in their artifact/city model and speech on Friday so they can present to the class. We encourage you to drop your child off in the morning on Monday and come in to visit the museum.
The next day the commons will be turned into a Latin American Marketplace. I hope that your kids are preparing their items for the sale. Brenda gave them over a month to put together their crafts and she has been reminding them weekly to work on them.
We have some suggestions to help your students make math come alive for them. We would like to challenge you to share your math thinking with your kids. When you are out to eat have them estimate how much the meal will cost by rounding the price of the entrees and adding them up. Have them figure out how much tip to leave. Give them problems such as if I have 22 tickets at Chuck-E-Cheese and I want to get a light up toy that costs 55 tickets how many more tickets do I need. Involve your kids in cooking and baking so that they get used to measuring. Play board games and card games with your kids. Help them to see that as an adult you are using math a lot.
