The Older Kids did a great job with their musical last week. They memorized their lines and delivered them well, they sang out loud and showed off their great dance moves. We hope you enjoyed the show. A big thank you to Tina for all her hard work putting all of this together. This week we continue the Fall celebrations with our Halloween parade and parties. We will be parading around the school at 2:00 with classroom parties right after. Parents are welcome to watch the parade and participate in the party.
The kids really enjoyed sharing their ideas while learning how to develop a theory about the main characters during our first novel study. We are focusing on character traits and how to use evidence from the text to support our opinions. Some students are learning to quote directly from the text to support ideas. We will be moving on to why characters in novels do what they do, how this changes the plot and how some characters, in higher level books, are “complex’ characters with contradicting character traits.
Our students have come up with some great ideas for the Mesopotamia recitation. We have a good balance of students creating an artifact and those making a city plan. This week students should begin making the artifact or map and work on the 30 second speech they will give when we have the “Living Museum.” Please check in with you student to make sure they are on track.
The Fun Run was an amazing success. The older kids brought in almost $5,000! Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored their child, helped collect money and helped on the day. We will be celebrating this success with some rewards that our kids chose. We will be making forts, so kids can bring in blankets and cushions, and we will have one of our work sessions inside the forts! We will watch a movie in the afternoon and have root beer floats.
