Topic Work at Rivendell involves the integration of a science, social studies, and/or history unit into all areas of our curriculum for a period of time. These school-wide topical units are an opportunity for students to participate in a greater depth of learning. As we delve into each topic, students experience the curriculum through science experiments, geography, hands-on projects, student composed recitations, reading, writing, and more. Each topic is custom designed by our teachers to reach the needs of our current students and challenge their thinking about the world and how it works. Our 2017/2018 school year begins with the topic of Mayans, Incas, Aztecs. Following this study are the following topics: The Solar System & Astronomy, Native Americans, Mountains & Plains/Geology, Africa/Black History/Diversity, Solids, Liquids & Gases/Acids & Bases, Dinosaurs, Insects.
