Happy 100th Day!!!! We had a great week and a great time today celebrating a successful 100 days!
February is an exciting month around Rivendell for Younger Kids. They have been busy practicing for their musical. We are pretty proud of the kids for their work so far. There are a lot of songs and dances to remember and they are doing great. Please help your child practice their lines at home.
Another exciting event taking place in February is Valentine’s Day and our Valentine’s Day party. In your child’s Friday folder you will find information about the party and a class list to help your child make valentines for their friends. There is also a sign up sheet outside of our rooms for supplies needed for the party. If you wish, please sign up to bring something. Next week we will be decorating our valentine boxes. Please bring in an empty cereal box that we can use for this project. Your children may bring in their valentines any time after Monday, February 11th.
This week we continued our trip around Europe and made a stop at each of the Scandinavian Countries. The kids made a very cool map and discussed the culture and climate of these countries. Next week we will be off to Spain!
The sharing theme for next week is…..
Something that Sparkles!!!!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

We certainly fit a lot into this shortened week! We crossed the Rhine into Germany and learned all about the country and its capital city, Berlin. The postcards that your kids made this week turned out very cool and we are excited to send these home to you when our unit is complete. We also worked on a map of Germany and a fun project related to the Buddy Bears that can be seen throughout Berlin. Your kids have learned a lot about Europe and its countries already and we still have three more stops to go on our adventure!
Next Friday is the 100th Day of school and we are excited to welcome Zeroman for his final visit of the year. We have planned several fun party activities for the kids next Friday and are looking forward to celebrating the day with your child. One of the activities that we will do is related to our Sharing Theme which is…
In the past children have brought in 100 pennies, buttons, marbles, legos, or matchbox cars among other items. We encourage you and your child to practice counting to 100 by selecting 100 things that can be categorized in some manner. Then, bring them into school on Friday. The kids will share their 100 things with the class and will also count them with a buddy or two. We do not need any parent help with this party but we are very excited for the parent led Valentine’s Day party that will take place in a couple weeks! Be looking for more info on that in the coming days.
Enjoy the weekend…

The kids have been pretty excited about our new unit on Europe. This week we got another stamp in our passport as well made our way to France. The kids really enjoyed learning and creating their very own Eiffel Towers. Next week we will take the train to Germany and learn all about Berlin. We have a really fun project planned.
In your child’s Friday folder this week you will find a note from Tina and a script for the younger kids musical. The kids have been working hard to learn the songs and choreography. If you could help them practice their lines that would be great. Our musical is February 20th.
Next week for sharing will be a bit different. We will still have sharing, the kids just don’t need to bring something. They will be sharing a project that they will be making earlier in the week in class.
Have a nice three day weekend!

What a great week we all had. Sometimes it is hard to get back into the swing of things after a Holiday break, but your kids have done a great job. Our systems of the body unit is helping to keep the kids interested and motivated to learn. Be sure to check out your little skeleton in the hallway. This week we learned about muscles and added just a few of the over 600 muscles in the human body. The kids have also been enjoying listening to stories written by our author of the month, Lauren Child. Charlie and Lola have added a lot of fun in our classrooms.
In the Friday folder this week there is some information about Rivendell’s annual talent show. The talent show will be Friday December 21st. If your child is interested in sharing one of their talents be sure to fill the sheet out and get it returned to Seth by December 14th.
We have a fun event coming up to help support Rivendell. Here is a note from Carol, our Librarian regarding this activity:
Rivendell’s Bookfair at Barnes & Noble is coming! The Book Fair runs Friday, December 7 through Sunday, December 9. Rivendell hosts a family event at the Fort Collins Barnes & Noble in Fort Collins on Friday night, December 7 beginning at 6:00 pm. If your child would like to participate in singing on the children’s stage at the bookstore, please arrive in the children’s area no later than 5:50 on Friday night.
Then, stop by our wish list table and donate a book to our library in honor of your child’s favorite teacher. At 7 pm, Barnes & Noble will host Polar Express Story Time, followed by hot cocoa and games; giving parents some time to relax or finish their shopping. And, this year get your gifts wrapped at our school-sponsored gift wrapping station in the “power aisle” at the store. Don’t forget to purchase your Barnes & Noble scrip at the office window before the fair and Rivendell wins two ways!
So, stop by on Friday night and join us for a fun evening of books, music and friends, and to celebrate our school!
Next weeks sharing theme is……………
We hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the break. If you have time, check out our “thankful turkey ” on the Younger kids bulletin board.
We will see you Monday!
